The Royal Belgian Institute for Natural Sciences will welcome you for an informal cocktail and seated dinner in its prestigious Dinosaur Gallery. Before the diner, participants will have the opportunity to walk through the Dinosaur Gallery where the famous Belgian dinosaurs, the Bernissart Iguanodons, have the place of honour. Upon request, more detailed information will be delivered by Museum guides.

Public session: Looking forward: working together to achieve GBIF’s Strategic priorities
Time: 09:30-12:30
Venue: Comics Art Museum, Cloak room

The aim of this session will be to demonstrate through concrete examples and open discussion the critical role that nodes will play in implementing the objectives of the GBIF Strategic Framework 2023-2027. The session will take place in hybrid format from 09.30 to 12.30 Copenhagen time (UTC+2). All node managers and staff will be welcome to participate, whether or not they are registered as delegates for the Governing Board. The session will be structured around the four priority areas of the Strategic Framework, with facilitated segments of approximately 25 minutes for each priority, showcasing ongoing or planned activities from nodes submitted in advance.

Excursion to the Meise Botanic Garden
Departure time from the Comics Art Museum: 13:30 Expected return: 18:30

All Governing Board delegates, GBIF committee members and invited observers are invited to join an excursion to the Meise Botanic Garden

Our headquarters for the day will be the Armory room of our medieval Castle of Bouchout, where you will have the opportunity to network with our staff, get demos of our virtual herbarium, our crowdsourcing platform and other contributions to GBIF. You can also enjoy a free visit of our castle with its permanent and temporary exhibition. You will be offered a permanent buffet with coffee/tea, refreshments, home made cakes and fruits. Excursions will depart from the castle in several groups. You will have the opportunity to visit our herbarium, our living collections, seedbank, greenhouses, wood museum and parts of our 92 ha domain. We envisage using our train to visit the different spots.

A one-day symposium organized by the European Biodiversity Partnership (Biodiversa+) and the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), on the margins of the 29th meeting of the GBIF Governing Board (GB29)

Overall objective: to explore and catalyse collaboration across multiple EU institutions, in partnership with Biodiversa+, GBIF Secretariat and nodes, to exploit fully the opportunities for scaling up and harmonising efforts to improve availability of data for implementation of European and global biodiversity objectives.
